Claude SEO is the practice of making your brand the source Claude reaches for when someone asks a real question. Not ranking in Google. Getting quoted, named, and recommended inside Claude’s answer.
Claude grew 13x in 2025. It’s become the assistant of choice for product research, vendor comparisons, strategy work, and technical buyer evaluations. If you sell to technical or thoughtful buyers, Claude is already in the room before your sales call starts. The question is whether your brand is too.
Metronyx AI helps SaaS and digital brands become the sources Claude cites. Not by gaming prompts. By engineering the kind of content, entity signals, and off-site trust that Anthropic’s retrieval models actually weight when they decide whose claims to include in an answer.
- Claude SEO is about getting cited inside Claude’s answers. Google rankings are a secondary effect.
- Claude picks sources using a different signal stack than Google. It weights depth, structure, and entity trust over backlink volume and keyword density.
- Most “Claude SEO” pages on the internet are Google SEO advice with Claude pasted on top. That’s why nobody ranks in Claude for Claude SEO.
- The real work is content depth, entity architecture, Anthropic-trusted off-site mentions, and structured markup Claude can extract cleanly.
- If you’re not being cited in Claude after 90 days of proper work, something exact is wrong. We’ll tell you what.
What is Claude SEO?
Claude SEO is the discipline of showing up inside Claude’s responses as a named, trusted source. When a buyer asks Claude “what’s the best platform for X” or “how do I solve Y”, Claude generates a structured answer and often names exact companies. Claude SEO is what gets your brand into that list.
It overlaps with Google SEO in places. Some signals do double duty. But it is not the same job. A page can rank #3 in Google and still never show up in Claude. A page can rank nowhere in Google and get quoted in Claude every day. The signals are different, and the work is different.
The closest parent discipline is citation engineering. Claude SEO is the Claude-exact branch of that discipline, built around how Anthropic’s models actually retrieve, weight, and attribute sources.
How Claude Actually Picks Sources
Claude does not have a public retrieval dashboard. Anthropic has not published a full ranking algorithm. But a year of careful testing across hundreds of prompts has given us a working model of how it behaves.
Here’s what we’ve observed, ranked by how much it seems to matter:
The honest caveat. This is our current working model. Anthropic can change retrieval any week. We test continuously and adjust.
Claude vs ChatGPT vs Perplexity vs Gemini
People ask us all the time whether one AI SEO strategy works across all four. The short answer is partially. The engines agree on the basics and disagree on the edges. You can read the deeper engine-by-engine breakdown in how ChatGPT selects sources and how Perplexity ranks sources, but here’s the Claude-exact view.
| Signal | Claude | ChatGPT | Perplexity | Gemini |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Original research weight | Very high | High | Medium | Medium |
| Reddit citations | Low | High | Very high | High |
| Wikipedia weight | High | Very high | Medium | Very high |
| Brand entity clarity | Very high | High | Medium | High |
| Freshness bias | Low | Medium | Very high | Medium |
| Long-form preference | Very high | High | Low | Medium |
The shape of this table is the shape of your strategy. If you’re optimizing for Claude in particular, you write longer, you go deeper, you invest in entity architecture, and you spend less time chasing Reddit threads and news hooks than a Perplexity-first strategy would.
The Metronyx Claude Citation Protocol
We don’t run “Claude SEO” as a checklist. We run it as a protocol with seven stages, in order, each with its own audit. Clients see the whole stack so they know exactly what’s being worked on and why.
1. Citation Baseline Audit
We prompt Claude with 40 to 80 queries your buyers actually ask. We log every answer. We note who gets cited, who gets named generically (“a platform called…”), and who gets missed entirely. This is your starting scoreboard.
2. Entity Architecture Audit
We pull your brand’s knowledge graph footprint. About page clarity, schema markup, Wikidata presence, LinkedIn company data, founder bios, review site profiles. If Claude can’t build a clean picture of who you are, no amount of content fixes that.
3. Content Depth Gap Analysis
We map every query where Claude cites a competitor instead of you. We read the page Claude is citing. We write a better one. Not 300 words better. Genuinely better, with claims that page does not make.
4. Schema Implementation
Service, FAQ, HowTo, Organization, Article, Breadcrumb, Person for authors. Claude extracts structured data cleanly when it’s present. Pages without schema get summarized. Pages with schema get quoted.
5. Off-Site Authority Building
We map which publications and data sources Anthropic’s retrieval actually trusts. We target those in particular. One well-placed citation on a trade publication Claude trusts beats twenty from sites it doesn’t.
6. Original Research Publishing
Claude disproportionately cites pages that contain original data. So we help you create some. Benchmark studies, user surveys, internal data you already have but never published. One piece of real research can carry fifty citations over twelve months.
7. Re-Test and Iterate
We re-run the baseline prompts every 30 days. We track citation share, naming quality, and answer position. When something moves, we know why. When it doesn’t, we dig until we find out.
What Citation-Worthy Content Actually Looks Like
“Write good content” is the laziest SEO advice in the world. It’s also true. The hard part is defining “good” in a way Claude can actually recognize. Here’s what we’ve found actually works.
It answers the real question, not a version of the question. Claude is weirdly good at noticing when a page says a lot without saying the thing the user asked. A page titled “What is API rate limiting” that spends 800 words on history before defining the term is a page Claude skips. Start with the answer. Expand from there.
It contains claims nobody else is making. If your post says the same ten things every other post says, Claude has no reason to cite yours in particular. It’ll grab the first decent version it finds. Originality is a retrieval signal, not a vanity metric.
It names exact numbers, dates, and examples. “Many companies struggle with X” is noise. “In a Q3 2025 survey of 412 SaaS founders, 67% reported X” is a citation magnet. Claude loves specificity because its answers sound smarter when it has specifics to paraphrase.
It’s structured for extraction. One idea per paragraph. Scannable H2s. Tables where tables help. Claude’s not reading for pleasure. It’s scanning for claims to attribute.
It was written by a named human with a bio. Claude notices author entities. A post by “The Team” ranks below a post by “Sarah K., Head of Engineering at Acme, previously Stripe, 8 years in the space.” That bio is not there for vanity. It’s an entity signal.
Why Brands Don’t Get Cited by Claude
We see the same five problems come up across audits:
- Their content is reworded versions of competitor content. No original claims to extract.
- Their About page is marketing fluff instead of a real entity description. Claude can’t tell what they actually do.
- They have no schema markup or only basic Article schema. The structured signals are missing.
- Their off-site coverage is all SEO-bait guest posts on sites Claude doesn’t trust. The link volume looks healthy. The citation weight is zero.
- Their blog has 400 thin posts instead of 40 thorough ones. Claude picks depth over volume every time.
If three or more of these describe your site, you’re not going to get cited by Claude even if you triple your Google traffic. The signals Claude cares about are different, and nothing on a standard SEO audit will flag any of this.
The KPIs That Actually Matter
Most agencies report rankings, traffic, and backlinks. For Claude SEO, those are the wrong numbers. Here’s what we track for every client, month over month.
| Metric | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Citation share | Of the target prompts your buyers ask, what percentage include your brand in the answer. This is the scoreboard. If this goes up, nothing else matters. |
| Named vs generic mentions | “Acme Corp” is a named citation. “a platform that does X” is generic. The jump from generic to named is an entity signal win. |
| Answer position | First brand named, third, last. Position drives click-through on assistant answers the same way SERP position drives clicks on Google. |
| Assisted conversions from AI referral | Track via GA4. Our GA4 AI traffic dashboard guide shows how to set this up cleanly. |
| Share of Model | The AEO-native metric. Explained in depth in what is Share of Model. |
| Branded AI queries | When people start asking Claude about your brand by name, you’ve won. This is the lagging indicator. |
Our Claude SEO Services
Three ways to work with us, priced by scope and speed.
If you’re deciding whether Claude SEO is worth it before buying anything, the fastest way to find out is run our free AI citation checker. Thirty seconds, tells you where you stand across Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini.
Where Claude SEO Fits in the Bigger Picture
Claude SEO isn’t a standalone play. It’s one layer in the broader Metronyx AEO playbook. The flywheel looks like this.
- You publish citation-worthy content. Claude starts quoting it.
- Claude citations drive qualified referral traffic back to your site.
- That traffic improves engagement signals and entity authority.
- Improved authority makes other AI engines start citing you too.
- Cross-engine citations compound. You become the default answer.
Most of our clients start with Claude because Claude buyers are high-intent and the technical signal stack is the cleanest of the four engines. Once Claude is working, extending to Perplexity, Gemini, and ChatGPT uses most of the same infrastructure.
Industries We’ve Helped
SaaS platforms (especially developer-facing and technical B2B). Fintech and compliance tools. DevOps and infra. Cybersecurity. Legal tech. Healthcare tech with a real knowledge base. Education and training companies with original curriculum.
We don’t take on e-commerce, affiliate sites, or pure consumer brands. Claude’s buying signal for those categories is weaker than Perplexity’s, and our methodology doesn’t fit.
What a Strong Engagement Looks Like (Illustrative)
Illustrative scenario, not a real client. Shows what “running the protocol properly” looks like.
A B2B SaaS scenario. The team comes in with 0% citation share across 60 target prompts. Classic case. Good Google rankings, fine DA, zero Claude presence. We ran the full protocol over 90 days.
Not every client moves this fast. Results vary by starting entity strength, category competitiveness, and how quickly the client can approve content and schema changes. We don’t promise numbers. We promise the protocol, run properly, with honest reporting.
Claude SEO FAQs
Regular SEO optimizes for Google’s ranking algorithm. Claude SEO optimizes for Anthropic’s retrieval model. Overlap exists on structure and schema, but Claude cares far less about backlinks and far more about content depth, originality, and entity clarity.
First detectable movements come in 30 to 45 days. Material citation-share growth takes 90. Compounding starts around month 4. Anyone promising citations inside 14 days is either fabricating data or already had a client nearly there.
No, and nobody can. Anthropic’s retrieval is a black box that changes on their schedule. What we guarantee is running the protocol properly, reporting honestly, and telling you exactly why a prompt is or isn’t citing you.
It helps but is not a required upfront. What matters more is having the kind of off-site footprint that would qualify you for Wikipedia eventually. Trade press, verifiable original research, a real knowledge graph footprint.
It shouldn’t, and usually helps them. The content depth and schema work that powers Claude citations backs up Google’s quality signals too. We have never had a client lose organic traffic from running the protocol.
Then we probably only need to touch the entity layer and content depth gaps. Some of our cleanest wins come from brands that already rank well in Google. The existing authority transfers. The missing layer is structured citation-worthiness.
One client per category per engine. If we’re working with another contract management SaaS on Claude, you’d pick a different engine or wait for the slot to open.
