The Best Perplexity SEO Tools in 2026: Trackers, Checkers, and Citation Monitors

You want to know if Perplexity is citing your brand. You want to track it over time. You want to know when competitors get cited and you don’t. Fair enough. That’s exactly what Perplexity SEO tools are built for.

The problem? This category barely existed 12 months ago. Most tools are young, some are buggy, and the marketing often overpromises. I’ve tested every tool I could find so you don’t waste time on the ones that aren’t ready.

Here’s what actually works, what’s promising, and what you should skip.

What Perplexity SEO Tools Actually Do

Before we get into specific tools, let’s be clear about what this category covers. Perplexity SEO tools fall into three buckets:

  • Citation trackers monitor whether your brand or URL gets cited in Perplexity answers over time
  • Citation checkers run one-off tests to see if Perplexity mentions you for specific queries right now
  • AI visibility platforms track your presence across multiple AI engines (Perplexity, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) in a single dashboard

The third category is the most useful because nobody cares about Perplexity in isolation. You want to know your visibility across all the AI platforms your customers use.

ChatGPT Search

Google Gemini

Anthropic Claude

The Tools, Ranked

1. AEO God Mode

What it is: A multi-platform AI visibility tracker built specifically for AI search optimization. Full disclosure: this is our tool. I’m going to be honest about what it does well and where it falls short.

Multi-platform coverage
5/5

Tracking accuracy
4/5

Ease of use
4/5

What’s good: Tracks citations across Perplexity, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and DeepSeek in one dashboard. You enter your brand queries, it checks regularly, and you see trends over time. The competitor tracking is useful for seeing who’s getting cited where you aren’t. It also scores your overall AI visibility on a 0-100 scale.

What’s not great: The UI is still being refined. Reporting could be more detailed. It’s built for practitioners, not for handing to a client as a polished report.

Best for: Agencies and in-house SEO teams who want one tool covering all AI platforms.

Price: Free forever (Core). Pro from £9/month (~$12/month) (billed annually). Agency £29/month (~$37/month). One of the most affordable AI search tools on the market.

2. Otterly.ai

What it is: An AI search monitoring tool that tracks brand mentions and citations across AI engines. One of the first tools in this space.

Multi-platform coverage
4/5

Tracking accuracy
4/5

Ease of use
4/5

What’s good: Clean interface, reasonable pricing, good for teams that want a quick view of where their brand shows up in AI answers. The weekly email reports are a nice touch.

What’s not great: Coverage across platforms can be inconsistent. The query limit on lower tiers is restrictive if you’re tracking more than a handful of terms. Limited competitive analysis features.

Best for: Small to mid-size businesses wanting a straightforward, affordable monitoring tool.

Price: Starts around $49/month.

3. Profound (by Semrush)

What it is: Semrush’s dedicated AI search analytics tool. Previously a standalone product that Semrush acquired and integrated into their platform.

Multi-platform coverage
4/5

Tracking accuracy
5/5

Ease of use
3/5

What’s good: Deep data. If you’re already a Semrush user, the integration with your existing keyword tracking and competitive analysis workflows is strong. The AI citation data is reliable and well-structured. Good historical trending.

What’s not great: Expensive. You need a Semrush subscription plus the Profound add-on. The learning curve is steep if you’re not already in the Semrush ecosystem. Overkill for small teams.

Best for: Enterprise teams and agencies already using Semrush who want AI visibility data alongside their traditional SEO metrics.

Price: Requires Semrush subscription ($129+/month) plus Profound add-on pricing.

4. Peec AI

What it is: An AI search visibility platform focused on tracking brand sentiment and citation patterns across AI engines.

Multi-platform coverage
3/5

Tracking accuracy
3/5

Ease of use
4/5

What’s good: The sentiment analysis angle is unique. It doesn’t just tell you if you’re cited, it analyzes whether the AI is speaking positively or negatively about your brand. Good for reputation monitoring in AI search.

What’s not great: Still relatively new. Platform coverage is narrower than some competitors. The citation tracking itself is less detailed than Otterly or Profound.

Best for: Brands primarily concerned with how AI platforms talk about them (reputation focus), not just whether they’re cited.

Price: Starts around $99/month.

5. Knowatoa

What it is: A lightweight AI brand mention tracker that checks whether AI chatbots mention your brand when asked relevant industry questions.

Multi-platform coverage
3/5

Tracking accuracy
3/5

Ease of use
5/5

What’s good: Dead simple to use. Enter your brand name and a few industry queries, and it shows you whether AI chatbots mention you. Good for a quick gut-check if you’re just getting started with AI SEO.

What’s not great: Very basic. No historical tracking, no competitive analysis, no deep citation data. It tells you “yes” or “no” but not much about why or how to improve.

Best for: Small businesses or solo founders who want a quick answer to “Does AI know about my brand?” without a monthly subscription.

Price: Free tier available. Paid plans from £29/month (~$37/month).

6. Metronyx AI Free Citation Checker

What it is: Our free AI citation checker tool. It tests whether five major AI platforms (Perplexity, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek) mention your brand for queries you specify.

Multi-platform coverage
5/5

Tracking accuracy
3/5

Ease of use
5/5

What’s good: Completely free. Covers all five major AI platforms in one check. Good starting point to see where you stand before committing to any paid tool or service.

What’s not great: It’s a one-shot checker, not an ongoing tracker. No historical data, no alerts, no competitive comparison. It answers “where am I right now” but not “how is my visibility trending.”

Best for: Anyone who wants a zero-cost starting point for understanding their AI search presence.

Price: Free.

What to Actually Look For in a Perplexity SEO Tool

After testing all of these, here’s my honest take on what matters and what doesn’t.

What matters:

  • Multi-platform coverage. Tracking Perplexity alone is pointless. You need ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude too. Your customers use different AI tools.
  • Historical trending. A one-off check tells you nothing. You need to see whether your visibility is going up or down over weeks and months.
  • Competitive tracking. Knowing you’re not cited doesn’t help unless you can see who IS getting cited and study what they’re doing differently.
  • Actionable data. “You were mentioned 3 times” is useless. “You were cited on these queries, with these URLs, and your competitor was cited on these queries where you’re absent” is useful.

What doesn’t matter as much:

  • Pretty dashboards. Nice to have, but I’ll take accurate data in an ugly spreadsheet over beautiful charts with bad data.
  • AI-generated “recommendations.” Most tools bolt on generic tips like “improve your content quality.” You already knew that.
  • Integration count. Dozens of integrations mean nothing if the core tracking data isn’t reliable.

The Honest Truth About This Tool Category

I’ll be straight with you: AI SEO tooling is still early. Really early.

The fundamental challenge is that AI engines don’t have public APIs for citation data. Every tool in this space is running queries against AI platforms and parsing the results. That means:

  • Results can vary between checks (AI responses aren’t deterministic)
  • Platform UI changes can break tracking temporarily
  • No tool can guarantee 100% accuracy in citation detection
  • Cost per query is high because each check requires an actual AI API call

This is why most tools have query limits on their cheaper tiers. Running thousands of daily checks across five AI platforms is expensive.

That said, having imperfect tracking data is infinitely better than having no data. If you’re doing any kind of AI search optimization, you need at least one of these tools running.

Beyond Tools: What Actually Moves the Needle

Tools track visibility. They don’t create it. The actual work that gets your brand cited in Perplexity is:

  • Technical optimization: Crawler access, schema markup, page speed. See our AEO checklist.
  • Content restructuring: BLUF formatting, FAQ sections, factual density. Read our Perplexity ranking guide.
  • Entity building: Brand recognition, author authority, Knowledge Graph presence. Check out our entity architecture guide.
  • Freshness: Regular content updates. Monthly at minimum for competitive queries.

If you want help with the optimization itself (not just the tracking), our free AI visibility audit will show you exactly what to prioritize and give you a roadmap.
